Every month and a half   . This stuff will do 10,000km in it's sleep. You can push it to 15,000km, but you should change the oil filter halfway.

Yeah, it was 63F here in the San Francisco area this morning. The old diesel light went out on schedule and the engine fired right off. But dang!, it took at least 2 minutes before I could feel the seat heater on my backside!

I change mine every 20 000 km, oil and filter.

Analysis were beautiful, so I won't change that routine. :D

Who in Canada does the oil analysis?  I want to start doing this instead of laying on my back under the car.  Are there any shops that do a drive through oil analysis?  I believe I'll do a check on the oil @ 10K km and change it.  Then keep changing it @ 10-15K without checking.

Cheers, Steve

I go to my regional Caterpillar dealer, they do analysis there.

You have to pay extra if you want the TBN to be measured. :D

Costs me 47$ with TBN.

I sleep well at night though...

...just fired up the TD first time since i changed the oil yesterday... started like summer time... granted its only about -10C now. oil light went out immediately... used to take 10 seconds with summer weight..

same with mine with the 5w40 Castrol synthetic.  Oil light goes out immediately.  But the synthetic oil is weird.  It doesn't seem to react to temperature like the dinosaur oil does.  It stays at around the same thickness no matter if cold or warm.  I'm thinking of putting the redline synthetic in my transmission and seeing what that does for rough shifting when it's cold outside.

Detroit Diesel analysis' are 20 bucks here in Sudbury, plus a few stamps to mail the oil.  I didn't ask about TBN but I should have...

BlackStone Laboratories will send free oil sample kits and it cost $1.52 US to mail it to them. The cost for an analysis with TBN is $30 US.  Usually takes a week turnaround time, mail it on a Monday and get the results by Friday. Some times sooner.   http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

Yep, seat heaters are an option on TDI's, though for sure my old Q-ship doesn't have one! ;)
