Ive read all the info on doing a TDIm conversion on the FAQ page but still have one question.
I was planning to use an AAZ pump and swap the head, plunger and cam plate over from the TDI pump. Apparently thats an ok idea. The problem is finding an AAZ pump is a pretty tough.
So my question is, can i do the same with a 1.6TD pump and come out just as happy? From reading the FAQ page it seems to be about the same deal.
Can anyone shed some light on this that the FAQ page did not?
From my understanding, most of the VW VE pumps, save for some of the later AAZ pumps, will have a 17mm mainshaft, which some say is potentially weak for the larger head/plunger needed to fuel the TDI.
If you don't need insane amounts of fuel, that'll be fine, not sure what your goals are, if you need more power/fuel, then the cummins pump is the common next step up.
personally, I plan on the AAZ pump (unsure if I have a 17mm or the 'possible' 20mm) with a 10mm or 11mm head with either a modified AAZ boost pin, or a 1.6TD pin. As well as a lift pump of some sort.
but this is just what I've read, I haven't done anything yet specifically, someone else can confirm?
That sounds about right. I have an AAZ pump on the way from Burn_Your_Money, I will be using it with a 10MM stock TDI head so all should be fine.
I see what you mean about the FAQ, I am not sure why I wrote it that way as using an AAZ pump is pretty much a "Franken pump"
I'll have to go dig through my notes.
Thanks...so ill be hunting either of the pumps in that case.
