Is there a way to up boost without using a boost controller?

So I did the boost-pin mod and upped the max fuel screw a little bit.  There's definitely a little extra power in it, but nothing substantial.  It does smoke a bit more now, which I think is pretty cool, and it actually seems to run quieter and smoother when I step on it.

However, I noticed that by the temp gauge, the car is running just slightly hotter than usual.  So, I've got 2 questions --

Should I turn the fuel back down a bit?  or can I add a bit of boost?

And, is there a way that I can add more boost without using a boost controller?  As far as I can tell the lines are steel, so would simply crimping them slightly up the boost enough?  and just block the pop off valve to enable it to hold a solid 12 or so psi?

I turned the fuel down, and it seems to make slightly more power and less smoke.

Now, as far as adding boost...  another question --

If I crimp the line shut a bit but dont mess with the pop off valve, will I notice a difference?  As I understood it, the pop off valve opens at around 12psi and it stays open until you let off the gas again and reapply the gas.  Does it do this, or does it act as a wastegate sort of and just stay open bleeding the access psi after 12?

I don't have a BOV, so no answer to that one. Crimping the line slightly won't do anything, crimping it all the way will disable the wastegate completely, so you don't want to do that either. Do a search on bleed. Also if you are messing with the fuel screw, you better get an EGT if you don't have one. In my book, it isn't an option!

Well, technically yes. Realistically no.

A boost controller changes the amount of air flowing through very slightly which changes the boost. Close the line off more and you get more boost. The problem with crimping it is that you will be nearly impossible to close it enough to get a boost increase without closing it all the way. Not only that but that increase might not be exactly what you want.

Get a boost controller. Or, cheap out like me and make your own. Making one is very simple. There is a DIY on the forums somewhere that works identically to a boost controller. But you don't pay the $80 it runs you  :lol:

And the blow off valve will open up once it hits 12 psi which drops your boost to around 3-4 and then climbs again from there. So with your bov not disabled, as long as you dont hit 12psi you can boost properly. Going back to the line crimping thing... Again it would be impossible to achieve this specific psi by just crimping.

Make your own! Relatively easy, cheap and effective.

that's how I did mine... it was so siezed that I couldn't manage to take the top of to put the screw in. so I just plugged it with a broomstick...

I then cut the hardline, attached hoses and routed the two hoses into the cabin to my 20 dollar e-bay special boost controller....

Does 15PSI seem to be the concensus to safely run?

Is it possible to overboost even with the wastegate fully open? Isn't that why the factory installed the BOV?

Not flaming, just curious. I want to run 15PSI but not at the risk of overboosting with a disabled BOV.

Is it possible to change the spring in the BOV out to increase the blowoff point?

Just because the wastegate is there doesn't mean it will operate....

I adjusted my spring, and it leaks and you have to back way off the throttle for it to reset.  its getting disabled.
