Question about flipping the exhaust manifold upside down

When you flip the manifold and clock the turbo, how does the downpipe fit afterwards? Do you have to go custom or there's a way to make it work?
Reason I want to flip it is to use an intake manifold with long runners, either 8v or custom made using an NA manifold with a big plenum. I'm not a fan of how the 8v mani looks tho.

I would think you have to fab up a new dp due to the fact that the turbo will sit a lot lower than it did before!!! you might be able to get away with just cutting out a section of your current dp!!!!
Good luck, Michal

this has been talked about on the whore tex... the downpipe apparently points in all the wrong directions after you flip the turbo... so a custom one will be required.

Why would one want to flip the manifold?

i just tried a G60 intake manifold with the flipped stock exhaust manifold and it doesn't fit. Theres a small gap, (1/4" maybe?) between the head and the manifold. I didn't have time to look too closely, maybe it just needs a little grinding.

You need to do a bunch of gringding on the exhaust manifold, but the biggest problem is the shift linkage, its really close to where the downpipe should be, its not impossible, but not as easy as just unbolting it and flipping it upside down, also gotta deal with the oil lines...

Seems like a PITA. I have a spare head and manifolds. I'll see what needs to be grinded to fit the head. About the DP, I'll have to wait for the head to be on to see how close it'll be to the shift gear.
