I am looking at some 2000-2001 Golf and Jetta TDI's with automatic trans in NS.
Came across this 2001 Jetta,
,
188000 km, runs great and has never been damaged but the Automatic Transmission slips and either needs replaced or rebuilt. Cdn$6,850.00
Can anyone throw some light on this.... is it a common TDI related problem? ... and approx what would a rebuild cost ?
Bill
why automatic??? you're looking at around $3000 for the transmission... anything less won't come with a warranty, and probably slips too.
sometimes you can get away with using a better fluid... but it's probably going to fail.
i remember our van's transmission was slipping bad... wouldn't go into drive when cold... turns out that the tranny had a leak on the newly installed oil cooler lines  lack of fluid = no pressure = slippage... of course slippage could also just be from a worn down tranny... so many pressure actuated clutches etc... manual is the way to go!!!
I would not mind a standard shift at all, however, my wife can only drive an
automatic and I want her to drive it too

Come to think of it, it is better to pay a little more for a certified unit...
allows for peace of mind, i'm sure you know what I mean.
