« on: April 13, 2007, 02:56:22 am »
Wife's 92 jetta came home last nigth with a miss, started about 3 miles from home and she babied it in. plan is to loosen injector lines and find which hole, compression test the cylinder. Hoping it's just an injector..........
Anyone ever have an injection pump cause this?

Might be in the market for a head/engine/whole car...........

Last time I had a miss in a 1.6 a precup came loose!

Wish me luck! Just fired the car  and went to check injectors, fuel coming out where #2 injector line meets #2 injector. Wouldn't quit leaking when I tried to tighten in, maybe a hole in the injector line? Going to try to replace the line after work and see what happens. Keep you fingers crossed!

best thing you can do is probably just remove the line and clean the mating surfaces and re-tighten... i've some issues like that with leaky this and leaky that myself... car idle's crappy from a cold start sometimes, and other times not.  it's all just air from the fuel that leaks out though.

no need to baby if its a leak!  8)

Let me know if you need parts.
It sounds like a hairline crack in the line. Make sure your IP is bolted in solid, as well as the bracket that holds it to the block. Also ensure that the clamps on the lines are all adjusted and tight

Found a crack in the line at the nut on the injector. Put another line on, problem solved. Thinking about leaving the clamps off.........

Don't leave the clamps off, it'll crack sooner. There are a few rules for to follow to avoid injector line breakage,

Never bend a line to gain clearance or to remove an injector. Always remove it.

Make sure the line isn't under any stress when tightened.

Keep all the clamps in place and avoid stressing the lines to make the clamps fit, loosen and reposition the lines if necessary.

Always snug up both nuts before tightening either of them.

After adjusting timing crack all the lines loose to let them relax, then retighten.

If it looks as though the nut is twisting the line around as it tightens, clean and dry the injector flare side of the line and put a little grease on the back side of the flare and inside the nut so the nut will slide easier than the flare.

Good tips. Had most of them figured out, wasn't sure about vibration and cracking without the clamps. One of the engines I saw here had no clamps...........
One of the clamps I took off didn't want to go back on so I left them off for the time being.
Guess I'll have to loosen all the lines, get the clamps on (snug?) , tighten the lines, tighten the clamps...............
