What tranny for AAZ in a Mk 1 ??
« on: April 02, 2007, 09:06:42 pm »
What's the ideal tranny for a AAZ 1.9 in a Mk 1 Caddy? Any suggestions for a good strong transmission for a Mk 1? Will the pre-cable-shifter Mk 3 bolt into the Mk 1?
I'm looking for good cruising, not dragrace.

i would suggest an fn, but if you're gonna do alot of mods i would go for an 02a especially one from a tdi they are geared much taller

I have an FN now, but was looking for something stronger. Would the tranny that came on the AAZ fit in the Mk 1?

the tranny that came with the AAZ will not bolt it, it is missing the lower mount, or rear tranny mount. I'm sure you could make something work easily enough though
It has an electric speedo though

The tranny that came with the AAZ is no stronger than any other 020 tranny. If you want some thing tougher you'll need a cable shift 02A from the TDI.

I put a AAZ engine and AAZ gearbox into a mk1,easy,the speedo drive just swaps over, thats no problem, the mk3 mounts were taken off,i swapped a few bolts over from the casing of the mk1 box to the mk3 box to bolt the mk1 mount to it then in it went, geared nice too
