For sale: Rebuildable 1.9 TD block and head
« on: November 30, 2004, 06:29:25 pm »
I just took the head off of the block today and found more work than I'm prepared to do so my project is up for sale.

Price is best offer above 300 CDN.  I paid 250CDN but it cost me a fair bit in gas to pick the thing up.  I will deliver within 600 km of Sudbury for 50CDN, I can cross the border for a fee of course.

Here are the details:
-Fire damaged engine that turns over smoothly
-#1 piston is rusty enough that you can't see the cross hatches anymore, this is why I want to sell, there are no ridges in the bores so maybe you can hone it instead of reboring, other jugs look fine
-pistons have taken a good whacking at some point and I was able to pick a bit of aluminum off of #1, I was told the head was new due to an overheating problem so I find the piston issue confusing (It does have the newer style crank bolt on it...this may be the answer to my pondering)
-it probably needs a bit of a valve job on the pistons that were open, valves are only 15 bucks so no worries (www.altrom.com, look under Canadian Golf III)
-no pulleys or other external engine accessories that are in working order
-I'm also told it's a 95 Jetta with 185K km on it, markings on I shaft indicate it may be 16 6 97, I no longer consider sellers information reliable
-I don't know what this is worth as a core but if you want to buy a good rebuilt engine instead of fixing this one you may save a bunch, especially if you have a 1.6

If it doesn't sell on here within a week it's going ebay.  I will post pictures of important stuff if I receive serious enquiries.

Cheers, Steve

Sudbury, Ontario, Canada
aka Polar Bear country :)

I just took a better look at the cylinders and the other 3 have minor rusting.

#4 has the following on it:
2109
240301
028K
79.98DN

I think this means it's a rebuilt engine as www.altrom.com shows 80 mm as the 1st overbore.

The following are good or useable:
Block (pistons could go into another engine if you bored this one),
(I haven't dropped the oil pan)
head (1 stuck valve, 1 bearing cap needs polishing),
4 injectors (one is all black on face so possibly put in too loose),
exhaust manifold but no bolts,
IP bracket,
oil pan,
oil pump (showing some wear at engagement point as vacuum pump worn into butterfly shape),
waterpump housing,
long metal turbo oil line,
intermediate shaft (no pulley),
valve cover (needs wire gauze inspected)
1 garbled glow plug so you can get the part # off of it,
oil filter flange,

The following are probably junk but come with engine:
cam pulley (may just need sandblasting,
crank pulley (somebody hurt it),
IP pulley (may just need sandblasting),
IP,
turbo,
head bolts (not reusable right?),
oil cooler (full of melted plastic),
entire clutch

But it looks like it's sold to Dr Diesel. :)  It'll be good to have money again...hehe

Cheers, Steve
