Is there any special way to get the 4 torx screws out that hold the back plate of the compressor housing on? Mine are wanting to strip out. Do I need a torx for an impact driver or something like that? Heat and remove like I had to do with the compressor wheel?
As far as I can tell, the VNTs use t-20. A t-25 is too big, unless there are t-23 bits. Do you think heat would help any? From what I can tell, the VNT-15 and 17 seem to have the same exhaust turbine, but I still want to switch the 17 compressor over as the oil line hookup will be able to use the stock lines with only minor mods, as opposed to the 17 which needs mods for the oil and coolant.

heat and penetrating lube go a long way... i dont see why it could hurt.
I drove down to Denver and bought a set of torx for 1/4" drive. I used an impact driver and finally
got them off, although 1 did strip out and it is now a t-25 instead of t-20, thanks to my hammer.
My t-20 bit is twisted however. I think that because the VNT-17 is brand new, so is the thread
locking compound that appears to be on the bolts. So I am now the proud owner of a VNT-15/17.
If anyone else needs a VNT-17, the seller had one more for $250 and $70 shipping. A super deal
for brand new in my book.
JImfoo, what turbo are you asking about? A KKK?
If so they're NOT torx screws holding that comp backplate on, they're RIBE head screws
http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=128324and not done up very tight, just need cracking as they're installed with a loctite adhesive (encapusualted on therad)
No, I have a VNT-15 and a GT1749 I needed to piece together, but I got it done. I used the bottom oil tube off my old k14, but had to cut, bend and reweld it, but it will work with the stock bottom oil line. Looking at the k14, I see what the difference is although I see they will come out with a torx also. Thanks for the info though.
