GTD clocks with rev counter into mk1
« on: February 20, 2007, 11:52:34 am »
Hello all i have a 1991 Caddy 1.6 with a GTD engine installated by myself. I have been hankering over a rev counter for a while and have mangaed to source a set of GTD clocks. Trouble is wiring is not my strongpoint and the colours dont all match up.

The wires are as follows:

The colours on the caddy are: Blue/Grey, brown, purple/black, yellow/red, red/black, red, blue/white, blue/black, blue/green, yellow, blue, blue/red and black.

The GTD clocks are: Blue (x2), L.green (x2), blue/white, black, red/yellow, grey, green/white, brown, red, red/white (x2), purple, yellow.

ANy ideas which ones connect up to which?

So far i think ive worked out a few from looking at wiring diagrams, but im not at all sure!

Any help greatly appreciated

I'm pretty sure we will need wiring diagrams since most of us don't have any of these parts and have never seen them.

Ok got clocks in and working, cant get flashing red coolant warning light to go off. comes on about 15 seconds after starting. As far as im aware there is no sensor on the caddy! I have a red/white and a purple wire left over so im guessing its one of those. Does it need a voltage supply or and earth or what to shut it up?

Cheers

Hi,
I am installing GTD cluster in a '84 passat TD.
I can't make the rev counter work. I have to say that I made a mistake with the two green wires and contected the green wire of the tach to the blinker (which is 12v constant) instead of the W terminal.
I heard a buzzing sound from the cluster and inmediately disconected it.
Rewired it but the tach is dead.

Did I fried the tach? How can I check it?

Also, how do I check if the W terminal is providing a signal?

There are three spare wires, two white/red at possitions 2 and 9 and a purple one in possition 7. Should I contect the three to ground?

Thanks!
