New to VW's, But Not to Fast Diesels

Howdy foks, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I'm new to the VW side of diesels (Small c.i.d., rev happy), but have been playing with my Dodge since the day I broght it home  :twisted: so I'm not a total newbie  

This looks like a great place to learn the secrets of making a VW diesel fast, I'm really looking forward to chattin' with ya'll.

Here's the goat with the house in tow, one of the many things it gets to tote around, and before you ask it's a 40ft camper  :shock: Also where I live for the moment  :roll:



My everyday settings with the truck are good for about 350HP/850TQ and that's where I tow at, maxxed out I only gain another 50HP and 100ftlbs.....for now  :twisted:  :twisted:


Sadly I do not have any VW pics, yet, me, my camera, and the various parts and pieces of this project have not been able to get together  

Brief rundown, bought the Rabbit truck from a buddy, had a gas engine in it but came with the original diesel engine which was missing most of the timing gears and other accessories. Bought a diesel Rabbit car from the local junkyard with a complete motor just for the accessories, got to looking over the junkyard car good and found a turbo stuffed under the aftermarket intake (insert about fifty dancing for joy emoticons here) and also found that the motor in the donor is good. As it sits right now the truck has no motor in it, the car has no motor in it, and there are pieces scattered all over the shop floor  :lol:

nothing wrong living in a mobile home... less taxes hehehe and if you dont like your neighbours... you just move.  and before you move... you can dump your refuse on their lawn on a nice dark morning...  :lol:

only time i wouldn't want to live in one, is in our cold Canadian climate... it would penetrate those walls very quickly... but i'm not new to being cold...

A gent down the street from me has a Rabbit pickup. Sitting next to his mega-lifted Toyota Pickup and Suzuki Samurai, it looks tiny. Nifty little truck though.... I should talk to him more.

ONLY 850 ft/lb? lol. j/k. Those are pretty nice specs. For performance, you picked the right diesel of the big 3. The Powerstroke is a lot of fun, but its more expensive to mod past 1000ft/lb than a Cummins. And at 500HP and roughly 1200ft/lb torque in our 7.3L Powerstroke, we are intimately acquainted with cost  :shock: Especially considering our HPOP blew out.... sigh...

Yes, it gets rather chilly when the temp drops below 30, but not that bad.

Nice numbers for the PS, you have single or dual HPOPs on it?

Once the Rabbit is up and going good I want to get stoooopid with the goat, shooting for about 550-600 on #2, but I need something else to drive before it can become a true play toy.

Ever heard of the famous White Lightning? Oh wait.. You aren't from Colorado... Anyway, Heavy Duty style Ford F-350 long bed crew cab single rear wheel setup with a leveling kit good for maybe 2 inches of lift. High 12's last I heard. We're talking at Bandimere. Over a mile above sea level. I'm good buddies with him, and let me tell you what... He has one hell of a rig. Nice thing? Its his daily driver. He uses it to tow his 34' Titanium camper with his... I want to say 19' ski boat behind that. Then throws it on the strip. Talk about multi-purpose.

It's technically my dads truck. I'm cursed with youth right now (18 years) so don't have anything that exciting. I am the primary mechanic on her though.

You want to know what scares me? We've seen those numbers on 2 completely different dyno's in 2 cities, so we know they are pretty good. Yet, we are running a stock turbo (with a Wicked Wheel compressor though) and stock injectors (pressure turned way up and fuel supply upped) Shes tuned to hell, has a bigger fuel pump and fuel tubing (can't remember size...) a Tymar air filter (that thing is HUGE!!!) and a BTS tranny. That tranny is BULLETPROOF. Too bad Brians Truck Shop only makes 4R100's and the non-OD ford Auto... E10D or something like that... Man are they worth it though.
Lifted 4 inches riding 34's if I remember the tire size right. Nice stereo as well. Heh.

I'm trying to convince my dad to jump on an H2E or a QSSB with MINI-ME injectors and a dual HPOP rig. Hypermax TaperCore intercooler as well. Likely start in on the internals after that. She already leaves Mustang's, Camaros, and the likes in a big black cloud of soot wondering what just happened.

hillfolk'r> Nope, not a victim of Katrina, when that bad *** hit I was in Punta Gorda, FL for work, about a week later I was back in Mississippi and Louisiana doing relief work. My previous job had me living all over the place so a camper was the way to go, now that I have a job with no travel requirements the camper is a cheap place to stay while saving money for a REAL house.


Typrus> Haven't heard of White Lightning, and I thought I knew most of the better known PS trucks like Snow White, Stroked Lightning and Dockboy's plow truck. I do have a buddy or two up your way, one of them just started a diesel shop called Elite Diesel, Robbie's 4wd duallie was good to tow 27k or run 12.4's in the quarter He just sold it to finance another project.

If you need any parts for it gimme a shout, I happen to have a few connections and might be able to save you and your dad a buck or two. Won't be me personally selling them, but I can put you in contact with some folks.
