Is this the right steering rack?
« on: March 14, 2007, 02:17:51 pm »
Hi guys,

so it was the rack leaking out of the boots..
Today I went to the yard and got a rack off a golf 3 cabriolet, 2.0 l.(1998)
The number is 1HM422055D. Does anyone know what the difference is between the cabrio rack and one of a normal td, year 96. I'd like to know for sure if I can mount this rack on my car.
On the vwparts site this number seams especially for the cabrio, etka doesnt mention this number at all.
Ok, I appreciate any help!!
Thanks,Jan

No difference that I know of, however just take a quick measurement... oh wait a minute I think I remember the Bentley says that somewhere around 98 they switched to a different steering column that had a torque limiter in it.  You probably want to check the splines where it attaches to the rack to see if they are the same.
