WTB: Dead automatic

Yep, you read right. A dead automatic transmission, doesn't matter what transmission code.
Only thing it needs to have is good gears in it: clutch bands can be shot, controls can be non-existant, oil pump gone... just need the gears man, the ring, sun and planetary gears (and carriers).
Obviously, it'll also have to be cheap/free/whatever, and I would prefer something closer to home than somewhere that shipping would suck up a lot of money.
Let's talk.

Appreciate the offer, and seriously considered it for a moment, but then I realized it's an 850 mile one-way trip from here to there, putting it a little out of my present scope.
But if you're still looking to get rid of it come May, I'll be up in Chicago anyway... much more feasible time to come get it.

It was just slipping a lot when I took it out, it still worked kind of though. It hasnt moved in a while now so if you want it still and your in the area, I'm sure it will still be here.

Clutch bands going bad?
Sounds cool, I'll probably do that when I head up to Chicago then. Go a day early, finally make my way into Canada on a trip that doesn't involve canoes.

A 3 speed VW automatic that works!!!!??!

I think you should put that in a museum. I've owned 4 auto cars now and every single one of the trannys has died.

my old '87 vw golf gasser had the 3 speed tranny... it never died on me, even though i put it through hell
i did however change the tranny fluid... that may have helped since whatever was in it was this sludgey substance...

I hit a motherlode locally, so I have all the dead automatics I could possibly need for a while; holy crap I've never seen so many gearsets.

Guy got stiffed by the "core men" who usually come by and buy up the transmissions he pulls. Owns a transmission shop, pretty successful it seems. I asked if he had any dead or core automatics I could buy, and he seemed to light up. Had a storage shed full of the things, said I could pick through and find what I wanted. Some of them were partially disassembled, and since he sells them (When the core dealers actually show up; apparently they hadn't, wanted the transmissions for less than normal or something?) for cores to rebuilders I went rooting through the gearsets that had already been pulled.
Got about 7-8 full epicyclic gearsets, a few partials, and a couple of drive chains and gears out of an old transfer case.
