I spotted a good deal on a newly rebuilt 1.6NA diesel head and was wondering if it would work okay on my 1.6TD engine (cheaper than rebuilding my TD head)? Any issues? Cam? Sprocket?
TIA, Stan
Thanks that's exactly the kind of info I needed!
Destructive testing? I'm always up for that!
I've been doing some research into this subject myself and my guess is yes it will work if the engine isn't pushed increadibly hard. Just keep an eye on your EGT's.
Regarding metallurgical differences in the head casting, valve seats, and pre-chamber inserts, it is not really conclusive that they are indeed different for comparing a late-style (IE: 12mm head bolt) 1.6lNA head vs 1.6lTD head. For more info, see this thread:

I would say a 12mm 1.6lNA head would make a good rebuild candidate (change valves) for a 1.6lTD project. If you run a 1.6lNA head as-is or used, I would recommend keeping EGTs a comfortable margin below the stock 1.6lTD limits because of the less heat resistant valves.
hey,
im using an N/A head on my TD running 18psi boost and LOTS of fuel. i dont have an egt gague that works so im not sure of my temps but im assuming its pretty high considering my oil temps sometimes. its been on for a little over a year now but the boost and fueling mods have only been done in the last 2-3 months. i havent had a problem since i had it on but that doesnt mean there won't be one in the future. i wouldn't use it on an all out race car but just for driving i'd say you shouldn't have any problems.
