Tank Pump?
« on: December 12, 2006, 08:19:31 pm »
I have a 1985 VW Jetta Diesel.  Does this car have a supply pump in-tank?  If so, is it the same as the supply pump for the gas version of the same car?

Have you found anything better than an OEM replacement for these tank pumps?  They seem to be poorly constructed, as they are one of the most common things to go out.

I was wondering also --  On the GL and/or diesel if the supply pump goes out, but the lines are still full of fuel, will the main pump be able to continue supplying fuel (by suction)?  It seems like it would be able to, but I have no experience with it.

Thanks

the diesel injection pump is the only pumping source on your motor. it does not self prime, so if you run outa fuel, you are sol.

it has been recommended that you run a 5-10 psi diesel lift pump into vw diesels.  this would give you better power for sure.  probably make the pump last longer too.
