I think it's a 90? I don't even know to be honest. I'm pretty sure it had big bumpers on it

I'm interested if it;s a '90 or '91.

What does the registration say?

I don't know. I bought it off a friend's dad so I didn't bother with any paper work. Hopefully I can get out there on monday or tuesday to take what I need. I'll find out the details then

Okay.

   If the car is/was a 90, 91 or 92

and if you have the papers for it,

I'd be willing to slide some filthy

   lucre in your general direction.

I'll wait a few days and see what

   you can find out.

   Thanks

I'm at his son's house right now, I'll ask him when he gets home from work tonight and I'll let you know the goods.

Being welded back together with angle iron doesn't concern you? :?

No.

I, actually, just need an ownership

for a car I bought that doesn't have one.

(No it isn't a stolen car)

Whereabouts is the car? North Bay?

The car is between Orangeville and Brampton.
If you don't have ownership for your car you can just go the the MTO and say you bought a parts car that had no ownership and they will get you to do an afidavite (sp) and then you get ownership. It's $10-20.

I'm going to have to cancel the parting out of this car, unless the weather is good next weekend. I'm not able to get the parts tomorrow because the engine swap I needed to complete today got delayed due to missing parts

Oh. I didn't know that.

   I had envisioned getting  engulfed

   in a Kafkaesque bureaucratic nightmare

at the Ontario Motor Veh. Dept.

I bought the car, a year ago, originally, just for the

TD engine, but I've been considering fixing it up

as the body's really not that bad. (Not welded

   together with angle iron) :)

Three or four months ago, I did a couple of

Carfax and Carproof searches, on the VIN Numbers,

as well as a CAA search a couple of weeks ago.

It's all clear. No problems. I just don't have the

ownership for it and the previous owner has moved

   out West to Vancouver.

It's basically a running car that just needs some

repairs (nothing radical) So, I'm not sure it would

fall within the OMV definition of a "Rebuild".

I would be reluctant to, knowingly, swear out an Affidavit

which might not be entirely true.  (A serious criminal offence

and an automatic 5 years in the slammer).

I think that I might just take what I want, from it, and

send the body to the crusher, or still look around for a

TD body with a clear title, that's headed for the

   scrapyard.

In the interim, should you elect to part the car out,

I'd be happy to buy the title and VIN numbers, from you

and show you the "Bill of Sale" and the above mentioned

reports on the car as well as photographs of the car

the P.O. gave me, so you will know that it's all

   quite above board.

Assuming you've read this far, thank you for putting

   up with all my whining.

lol of course I read the whole post. Personally I don't think the MTO or whoever is going to care too much about a old car with a bluw book value of what, 2000? That's actually what the lady said at the MTO when I inquired about a rabbit that has no title. I think when they ask they word it "to the best of your knowledge..." so techinically you'd be fine.

If you were to buy a VIN etc, when that car is brought to the wrecker (the one the VIN came from, in this case my anlge iron car) wouldn't it get branded?

Sorry, I don't know what "branded" means.

If it means that the scrapyard would report it

   as "scrapped", then... not necessarily.

If the rest of the shell doesn't have a

VIN number on it, then it's just a large lump

   of scrap steel.

I scrapped the remains of an '86 Golf, a few months ago,

which I bought, for parts, from one of your friends up North,

   in Orillia.

I'd stripped it and cut some bits off it.

The tow truck guy asked if I had the registration (I did).

I said, "Yes, but I can't be bothered looking for it".

He said. "Doesn't matter, anyway, it's just going to

                 be crushed".

So, if I come acrss an appropriate body shell, I'll

just take the plate, from the dash, and cut out the panel

under the raintray, forward of the wiper motor, and spot

   weld it onto this shell.

Et voila! (as they say in Scotland) Ah've got mahself another

piece o' crap for a bran' noo project (to add to all the other

projects that languish in varying stages of completion).

Regarding the $2000 price tag, you mention, actually, I

didn't pay anything even remotely close to that.

So, even if I just take the engine, and scrap the rest, I'm

   still ahead of the game.

In any event, thank you for your patience, and all your

   responses.

   It's much appreciated.

   Thanks again.

Okay. Not a problem.

I, simply, thought this might be the easiest

   solution to my dilemma.

I'm afraid I haven't had much experience with

scrapping cars. Just the one aforementioned Golf.

I wouldn't want ol' "Angle Iron" to experience such

a profound sense of rejection when even a scrap

   merchant refuses to take it.

I guess I have to decide what to do with this car.

In the meantime, thank you for your time and input.

i bought a car off ebay... cracked windshield but new struts all around, white paint.. the rust seems to be ok, but will get bad if not sprayed.  its a 1.6TD motor and came from nova scotia.  a/c, tinted windows... pretty nice car.  i'm just wanting the motor from it.  anyone have any need for the body???  i dont know how much anyone would wanna pay for just a decent body... oh yea new muffler all the way back too.

guy said the bearings were done recently... brakes too... dunno about ball joints and tie rods...
