works fine for me, one login.  IE 6.0.28 most of the time.
I also regularly use IE 7.0 with no issues.
I just tried Firefox 1.5.0.7 and Opera 9.02  They both logged in on one try.

Have you tried clearing your local cache including cookies?  Failing that,  I would try disabling 3rd party browser extensions.  Then maybe re-install IE or upgrade to V7.  Then make sure I was virus free (do that first if you have any suspisions about it)
Or chuck IE and  try Firefox, it works just fine.

I'm using IE 6.0.28 as well and if I hit "log in", I have to do it twice, but if I use the "log in to check private messages" feature, I'm right in to the inbox, then one click to the forum.
