running away?

So the valve imprints are from a previous incident? Perhaps a snapped timing belt (which got you the new head)?

I wish it was still warm and sunny here :(

You can stall it too. That's what the guy did to the Jetta I bought. Started running away on the highway so he kept it in 5th and braked hard. Have to have a good clutch to do this though

Yes, that would work unless, of course, you had an automatic transmission...

I would think that the AMC head is Turbo spec.

yeah i kinda wonder about that amc head, cause it's brand new just has oil all over it, i was thinking it might be nice to stick that on my jetta instead of the rabbit. oh well...   wish the injector pump would have failed so i would have an excuse to send to the vwdiesel.net hero the one and only Sir Giles.  unfortunately the pump seems to be in good working order     but like youj said it's an automatic, with economy setting, which i forgot when this son of a *** started running away, so when i hit the brake to slow the ole girl down she  went into neutral as thats what the economy setting does when you let off the gas pedal, so this just made it even worse, i wish i would have thought to stick it in drive before i hit the brake but in moments like that it's hard to think of everything to do, it may have saved my pistons from being ***ed up, but like burn_your_money says, it's tough to say if that's from this event or a previous one.
