Sometimes I miss my K03...

I drove my father in law's 95 Jetta yesterday, it still has a k03 and wow, does it ever spool up quickly. I put my boost guage on it just to see... 5lbs @ 2000 rpms!

I swapped mine out for a T3 a few months ago. I get ~2-3lbs at 2000 rpms under load, I have it set for 9lbs max boost.

In retrospect, going to a T3 may not be a great upgrade unless you want to run more than 12 lbs. I'm just not brave enough to do that with my daily driver.

Mind you, another main consideration is cost. I can get a good used k24 or t3 for $100 - $150 any day of the week. Good k03s are harder to find.

The instant spool is what keeps my K03 on the car, I'd miss it bad. With my pump setup, mine will make full boost (17psi) by 2000rpm. The boost guage needle appears to be mechanically connected to the pedal. The thing just gives me a big stupid grin. :D  Might not be the best turbo for ultimate power, but for a daily driver it flat out rocks.

I'm toying with the idea of reworking a K03 turbine housing a bit for better exhaust flow and lower EGT's, my sustained EGT's are frightening... Anybody got any old ones to sell?

What kind of EGTs are you seeing? I just upped my fuelling a bit, and am now seeing 1200* on long uphill stretches. I think I can get that down with a bit more boost. I'm worried to go much above 10lbs with an older engine. Am I being a nanny?

and yeah, I have 2 k03 housings.

I also have a "partial" k03 rebuild kit from Jake Russel. I gave up on it when I realised neither of my k03s were rebuildable.

1200º, I wish. I can bury the 1600º guage, restraint is a must. I think I could melt it down pretty easily. My car has 308000km on it and I abuse it like this all the time, you're a nanny  :P . The stock boost range is up to 12psi, so I wouldn't hesitate to run that much at least, then add fuel to a light haze and enjoy. PM me if youre interested in parting with the K03 stuff.

I'm all about the T2/K14 turbos. they're a great middle ground between fast spoolup and higher boost. This AAZ rabbit i'm fiddling with uses a T2 14 psi unintercooled. next spring, it'll have an I/C and 18-20 psi. It'll be a rocket.
I repair, maintain and modify VW's and BMW's.
Good work done at affordable rates. Welding and fabricating, too.
Performance Diesel Injection's Super Pump: gotta have one!

The T2 & K14 came on earlier AAZ engines, correct?

Correct, the RA/SB 80hp GTD engines also used the K14 but with a watercooled centre housing.
