in folowing of the VNT topic.
you need a external wastegate to control the boost on a IDI. (correct me if i'm wrong)
i was searching
http://www.motors.ebay.com/
a bit.
i found very cheap external wastegates

they are stock 8psi, low boost. with a stronger spring it can give you the right boost, but can this low budget wastegate also take this high pressures up to 30psi??? i thought maybe they should brake?
any expierience?
what do you think of this one?

this is my own project for it (unfinished)

I'm not certain you need a wastegate to control the boost on a VNT turbo. I think a lot of it probably has to do with how the VNT mechanism is adjusted, and other variables. I put a VNT-17 on my 1.5, and unlike the VNT topic you're referring to, my turbo only builds about 5 pounds of boost when the vanes are completely open. That tells me that there's a lot of head-room built into it for controlling the amount of boost.
That's just been my experience though. Perhaps with a VNT-15 on a 1.6 it completely different.

No, you won´t need a wastegate. Just correct adjustments to vane mechanism. I´m using a VNT20 vacuum can with flipped internals (boost controlled) It works pretty good to me.

@Audi80: how much boost are you running, how high are your peaks?
if the boost peaks to high you producing hot air, isnt?
its maybe a stupid question, can you make more power with an external wastegate?

I´m running 1,6-1,7bar (23-25psi) boost, no peaks higher.
If you limit the boost with vane control, where do you need a wastegate?
