Not Air bubbles-- Again
« on: October 05, 2006, 06:41:06 pm »
Yeah, I Thought I had this one solved...
She actually ran pretty nice for two days...
I mean yeah, there were still things but.....
At the end of a day of work(today) I went to
start it up..... Started very poorly....
wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,vummm......
usually wa,vuummmmm.....
I drove about a mile or two...
stopped at the store and took
a peak.  It was the Lawrence Welk show.....
Freakin' bubbles every where.....
I went and got fuel.... she was low..
13.5 gal to top it off......
drove 30 miles.... still air all over.
Now here is what I have done....
New filter(bosch) and clamps on
the lines.... filled filter so not to
get air lock.......
Now two days ago when I decided
on the clamps... It was when I
opened the trunk checked out the
sending unit... well, it was sitting
in a puddle of fuel.....  cleaned it
up.... did the clamps........
Now the clamps didn't do squat...
but I must say it ran ok for two days...
with very little air in system..........
Well, I really would have liked to
check the sending unit before I filled
up the tank today.13.5gal.. to verify if the
sending unit was dry before hand.
I had the wifie rev the motor alittle
to see if there were leaks... no leaks.
unless when the warm fuel runs through
it perhap somthing happens then...
It doesn't look rusted... maybe
a hair line crack (white plastic) on the return
side where the sending unit
90's down... I just see a very thin dark
line running down in the plastic.....
(but i maybe wrong-- just trying to find something.....)
 Suggestions are appreciated...........

i doubt this will help, but the air bubbles on my rabbit were simply the seals/banjo in the wrong order on top of the fuel filter.

yes... remember seal goes first.  I still remember when i over tightened a banjo bolt for power steering on an audi 5k... it was way the hell down near the firewall...  almost cried...  but thank god i grabbed an extra one with the p/s hose i got from the wreckers!!! :)

Yeah, I would hope for that too.....
on the Jetta A2 the filter doesn't
have a banjo bolt..... It uses one
O-ring(which resides on the filter)
then this plastic(control valve) I guess
thats the name pops on the
(nipple like) opening and slides over
the o-ring.... then a clip goes through
a collar over the plastic control valve
to the other side of the collar  and
clips in....
AHH the pleasure of troubleshooting :P
What is really strange is that it was running
pretty good... and then whamm.....
suddenly it runs not good....................
I guess I could put a thicker o-ring on
the filter.....
I am gonna check the sending unit again
tonight.. see if that puddle is there again....
It burns me that  I didn't check it before
I filled up... I was at AGENT ORANGE(home depot)
parking  lot, I could have bought a screw driver then.........
That fuel puddle on top of the sending unit is
what is bothering me........
Anyone know what a sending unit cost from the dealer?
