hi,
the first TDI was in the audi 100/200 a 5-cylinder with 120 HP introduced in 1989 *damn*
the first 4-cylinder was the 1Z-engine in the Audi 80 from 1992-1995
Has any one tried this swap before? Installing 1.6 or 1.9 TD into early 80's Audi 80 or 90. I remember in Europe, these cars had the first TDI engine. But finding and installing TDI is more difficult than regular TD, I thought I want to try this in a future.
should be no problem to swap(from 4-cylinder gas engine):
just take the 12V for the igniton-coil and put it on your pump, install a steering-box for the glow-plugs and its done.
only problem ist the location of the generator: it's located on the the exaust-side
the most 1.8S (90HP) engines have the AKM-gearbox, the 1,6l TD and 1,9l D has it too!
at 2500RPM you drive real 100km/h with the stock 175/70R15 tires.
Note: I heard Audi 80/90 from late 80's to early 90's have fuel tank behind rear passenger seat. Is that's true? That sounds like a total whack to me.
yes, thats right it makes the car absolutely unusable for loading large things
My Audi 80 from 1988, born with the 1,6TD /w intercooler:
