(more) intercooler questions and Hybred K26/K24
« on: September 11, 2006, 09:11:06 pm »
So...I have an Audi 5000 Intercooler and the turbo (k26). I also have a Saab 900 all Aluminum intercooler.

Which intercooler is better?

And can I make a hybred with the K26 impeller and the K24 Turbine?

Efficiency and installation issues aside, the Saab all-aluminum intercooler (presumably with welded end tanks) is the safer bet.  A long time ago I popped the end tank off of a 5000 intercooler running around 1.2 bar of boost.  Loud as hell too.  When increasing the boost of their 5000 turbo gasers, some people actually put a metal strap all the way around the intercooler to keep the end tanks on!  At relatively light boost levels, I'm sure the 5000 intercooler would be fine though.  If I'm not mistaken, the K26 is what the S4 runs.  What are you putting it on?
