Clutch pulley yes or no?
« on: August 22, 2006, 10:25:21 am »
Hi you clever lot,i am fitting a 1.9TD AAZ engine into a mk1 golf
I am petrifired of my crank pulley doing the slip,so is it wise to fit the alternator with the clutch pulley or not??
What does this clutch pulley do? i know it slips one way not the other?
MANY THANKS GUYS
Bert
Oh,the fanbelt only drives water pump and alternator
Question. How does the belt run, which side of the water pump pulley should it sit on? i have seen these belts on both ways!
the water pump pulley is smooth so i assume the smooth side of the belt runs on the smooth side of pulley??

Well my guess is that you just need a belt diagram.  Someone on this forum should have a link

He's referring to the one way clutch style alternator pulley.

The best fix,is to machine the crank to accept the TDI crank gear.No more worries. If the engine is not in the car yet, pull the crank and have it done.

There is also an updated balancer for these engines. The one way clutch pulley will help it as well.

With the crank gear mod,new balancer, and clutch pulley,it is bulletproof, and smooth.
