head gasket question...
« on: August 28, 2006, 11:59:12 am »
just to make sure of what i am seeing...
i have an oil leak from the seal of the valve train to the block itself, the head gasket.  as far as i can tell there is not oil in the radiator but it is leaking 1 quart per 500 miles and not smoking out the back.  the compression is 350psi in piston 3&4 not sure about 1&2 due to the pain of getting a compression guage in there.

the other question i have is, is it worth having the head rebuilt and re-ringing the pistions when it was running fine and does run fine once it starts(well minus the oil blowing all over the firewall :P).  the engine has 90,000 miles on it but was sitting for 4+ years before i stuck it into my Jetta.

Finally should i go with the standard 1.6 gasket or try to find a metal gasket i keep hearing about?

so far i have owned this car 1 year and only have been able to drive it 4 months, lol so much for the $200 car that will make my life perfect, with over $2200 in it now when do i say that is enough and just sell it and start over with a new TDI?

thanks for all the help to come guys and gals!
