Agreed but you still get net power gains at cost of even more economy and lifespan...per graph its diminishing returns after about 25psi.

I think the general consensus has been 15psi non intercooled would run with similarl longevity to factory, to simplify.

Oh definitely, no sweat. And the boost controller helps spool up significantly. It's night and day with a t3 even at 8psi

I did not know this...I thought the wastegate stayed closed completely until opening pressure (~11psi)...

it doesnt, between the backpressure in the exhaust pushing on the wastegate valve, and the boost pressure pushing on the diaphragm they start to sneak open.

I saw a utube video where the guy threaded a bolt into the plate near the exhaust
and used the bolt to hold the wastegate closed all the time.
I don't think even he even got 20psi.

it depends on fueling. my old 1.6 had a k24 with a wastegate that was stuck shut, and with stock fueling it would go to 15psi. by adding fuel i could get to 25-30psi totally controlled by fuel. fuel adds alot of exhaust volume/energy by turning into heat and combustion gases like co2

I have been reading about intercoolers.
"Maximum Boost", by Corky Bell

Two things regarding an intercooler:
1. To lower temps pushed back into engine
2. Try not to lower air pressure too much while doing #1.

I have a question...

IC Efficiency.
The goal of the intercooler is to drop the air temp back as close to ambient as possible (pg. 52-53).
T=Temperature
(air flow location)
T(ambient) = T(out of intercooler) = 1 = 100% efficient.
? by adding methanol spray after the T(out of intercooler) and prior to the engine, the temps could be less than T(ambient) resulting in an efficiency of >1 ?

Has anyone done this? experimented adding this? used methanol instead of IC? opinions/comments?
I live in Texas and the air on a road at a stop light in august is easily +135F getting sucked up.

I prefer the use of an intercooler because there's nothing to refill. You also have to find a way to meter how much is sprayed into the intake. Air to air intercoolers are super simple, and an AWIC setup can be nearly 100% efficient.

I went to speed week last year and was part of Steve Menendez's record holding team salty frog (1.5td vw powered dodge rampage). He has a large AWIC setup on that car, and data logging. at nearly 35 psi the air temps at the turbo outlet were around 400F after the intercooler in the intake manifold they were 70 degrees; roughly ambient. The AWIC coolant reservoir was filled with ice, but still this is a very effective intercooler even without ice.
