Welp time to save the 85 golf. What gauge metal do I need to weld in for the rear shock towers?

16 gauge is 1/16" right? Or is that 1/8" steel.
So is 1/32" metal 32 gauge?

Ended up using 22 gauge steel from lowes. Use the old harbor freight electric sheet metal sheers to shape the piece I needed

Nice, not a lot left to do there.

I've been using probably 1/32" and 16 gauge stainless steel when I patch.

Just got done doing some work on the MK2.
Underneath where the rear bolts to,.. I replaced the cover skin.
You might want to spray inside that area underneath with some corrosion inhibitor.
