Battery light after alternator upgrade
« on: January 24, 2023, 03:57:31 pm »
Me again... Upgraded my stock 45A alt with a 90A alternator from a gasser. After upgrade battery light is on until 1100rpm. Battery voltage at the exciter wire. Did not have that problem with the old alt.
Getting 14.4/14.3 at idle without accessories, with fan lights etc 14.2/14.1.

Regulator is almost brand new swapped from my old alt, changed it recently. Bad diode bridge?

Bosch 90A alt, red label.

If you are getting those 14-volt readings once the alternator has been turned on I would not worry about it coming on after a blip on the accelerator to 1100 RPM to make it work.  It might take a bit longer to trigger that bigger winding on the new alternator.  Mine doesn't normally come on until I hit that RPM range or higher.

All is good if it charges.

Pretty common.
Surprised you didn't have this happen earlier.
