1985 jetta tachometer cluster install?
« on: May 15, 2022, 10:28:49 am »
Will a gauge cluster with a tach just plug in or does it involve extra wiring. Would it be easier to just install an aftermarket tach.

It should be plug and play nice.  If someone has swapped out the alternator for one without the lead to feed the back of the cluster you may be looking for a proper alternator.

Yep, easy swap.
Your alternator should already have the w plug, and the wire.
For the dynamic oil pressure reading setup.

There are two types of clusters.
 CE1 and CE2.
 2 has 1 plug.
the early 1 has 2 plugs

I think I have one of those in the spare parts bin.  I will look at it tomorrow and see if I can get a picture for you.  I am pretty sure it has two plugs for all the gauges and lights and stuff to keep you entertained or worried as you drive.

I would like to sell it as I normally by MK1 clusters with a tach from gasser cars and then convert the tachs to run off the W wire on the alternator.  I got one MK1 and one MK2 cluster in a buy them both or not at all deal.  So I can't use the MK2 one.  But you can.

It has 115K on it, appears to be fully functional, and has two plugs at the bottom, one white on the right and one black on the left.  It has the metal circle thing with the hose bib on it as well as the sensor on the speedo.  So maybe set up for Cruise control????  I am not familiar with those add-ons.

Part no.  191 919 035 DP   A very clean unit I might say.  Send me a PM and we can work out a price and I do PayPal for this kind of stuff.
