02a in Mk2+1.6td
« on: April 27, 2022, 06:06:40 pm »
Hi all, my Mk2 020 transmision died puking oil everywhere.

I have future mk3 TDI donor car and i was wondering has anyone matted 02A trans on to 1.6 TD engine?

My 1.6 is really healty so i dont want to completly swap TDI just yet.

Can TDI clutch be fitted to 1.6 Being 228mm and more teeth or i can use stock clutch kit, What about the starter whitch What should i put?

Pedal box? Stock modyfied Mk2 or mk3 fits with all hydro stuff or mybe Cable clutch conversion Whats cheaper?

I know shift Tower fits And 100mm Axels can be swaped over, and it Wont be geared too high cause its tuned quite bit so i have enough power for it.

I've been heading in this direction with my M-TDI.
The MK2 and MK3 have a lot in common.

The MK3 k-frame, the part with the steering rack on it,
that bolts the frame to the control arms,
fits in a MK2 and has the rear mounting points for the trany and engine.

I've also read that the '97ish passat front support has the mounting points for the front of the 02A trany and also bolts into the MK2.
And the corrado hydraulic clutch setup bolts into the Mk2 with a little work.

I don't have experience with this setup yet but hope to by the end of the summer.

I will probably be doing it next month, I found out basically everything fits.  My only worry is clutch engagement now, some say Passat B4 pedal cluster or Corrado, I don't want to spend more money on other parts.

So I must find out how to modify the stock pedal cluster or mk3 to fit well.

Or maybe a DIY cable actuator.

If you figure out how to use a stock MK3 peddle cluster be sure to post how you did it.
Since my engine is from a MK4 I might try to use parts from that and post if/how it works.
I did buy a MK3 TDI parts car too so maybe I'll use the MK3 stuff we'll see.

Nope, I've never seen that.
Something get dropped in the timing hole?
