Land Rover pump timing question

(1/2) > >>

DaveInWa:
Hi,

I have a 1Z and am installing an LR300 pump for my mk1 pickup. I have read most all of the other posts, but I was a bonehead and forgot to lock the shaft before I removed the (keyless) hub from the (keyed) shaft. So now all I have is the 4 position detent of the cam plate to go off of, and the location of the key slot on the shaft.

So, how can I get the pump into the ballpark correct place to set the hub back on?

I guess the good news is that I can now line up the LR "slot" to cylinder 1, where I have read it was at cylinder 4 before, 180* off.

I have tapped a new hole to mount the slotted ALH pulley, so that's how much adjustment I'll have once I set the hub in place.

Thanks,
Dave

Maybe I am overthinking this... Point the keyway roughly at the #1 output, use the dial indicator to do the timing, then install the hub so that the locking pin engages at that location? And then install the sprocket/pulley with the bolts in the center of the slots for adjustment in either direction?

Thanks y'all.

You've got it.

fatmobile:
When you say use the dial indicator to do the timing.
You move the shaft until the dial indicator is at the right place then tighten the locking bolt that holds it there.

DaveInWa:
Thank you @libbydiesel, @fatmobile.
