Guidelines for the Classified forum:

1. PLEASE NOTE:  this Forum is a message board ONLY and accepts no liability nor provides any warranty regarding any buyers, sellers, or items described therein.  Transactions related to buying or selling are private arrangements between the buyer and the seller and should be discussed via private IM or email rather than thru the forum itself.


2. When creating a new post in this forum, start your topic title with one of the following:


--- Quote ---FS: (For Sale)

WTB: (Want to Buy)

WTT: (Want to Trade)

Feeler: (If you're curious about the value of your product)
--- End quote ---

... or whatever you see fit, then follow up with a product description and if applicable, a price. Here are complete examples of three topic titles:

WTB: 4 steel wheels, 4x100 lug pattern

WTT: My 1.9L TD head for your 1.6L TD head plus $200 CAD

3. Try to be descriptive in your title; instead of typing FS: Diesel Vehicle use FS: 1994 Jetta 1.9L TD, $5,000 CAD or even FS: 1994 Jetta 1.9L TD, $5,000 CAD, 300,000km

4. Pictures are a really good idea.  If you're the seller you should post 'em, and if you're the buyer you should probably insist on them, so that you don't get a surprise when the shipment arrives and the item is not what you thought it was.

5. This is an international board, which means not everyone will immediately assume USD (US Dollar) currency. If you post a price without stating currency, then users may tend to check your location profile for a hint. For instance, if you are based in USA, users will easily assume that your advertised price is in US dollars. If you are based in another country, users may not be so sure that you're posting USD. Stating the currency will help.

6. Your location will also help users determine the distance between you and him or her, etc. If you haven't already updated your profile to indicate location, then see this thread or click here to update your profile now.

7. This board has a voluntary buyer/seller feedback system as described in this post .  Consider checking the feedback ratings of a buyer/seller *before* entering into a business transaction.

8. This has been discussed on the board, but never put in yet, if an item sells please mark sold. If it is pending please mark pending. If not all will consider it fair game. It will also help when someone does a search and see a post from a year ago and you get PM's about something that was sold a year ago.

9.  If you are not involved with the sale, advancing the thread, or interested in buying or receiving parts, do not comment on the thread. If you feel it is necessary please contact the thread starter via PM. Original poster could bump their thread as needed.

I hear horror stories all the time about people getting screwed out of a part, or money or both. I do alot of selling on ebay, and I've found that the best protection for both parties is to use PayPal. It's easy to sign up for, it's international, and it protects buyers and sellers.

If you are a seller sending a package internationally, you should require a confirmed shipping address. Minimally, you'll need a tracking number for a package shipped to the address. Obviously, a signature delivery is best, but that's not always cost-effective.

As a buyer, you are protected against undelivered items, or damaged items up to a certain amount (4000 USD I think, but I'm not sure). Filing a claim is easy, and the burden of proof rests on the seller to provide tracking information. If they are unable to do so, then PayPal will side in your favor. Be sure to read all of the guidelines about the claim procedure though.

I got hosed by a guy on the VWVortex about 6 months ago.
I used Paypal for the transaction, and he was and is a confirmed account,
but they only refunded what he had in his account and that was after one month.

Paypal really disappointed me because I thought you had better protection,
but if they do not offer up money if it is not in the other person's account.

I have used Paypal successfully for over 7 years, with just one bad purchase. Im not saying do not use it, just beware!

yea paypal doesn't truly offer 'protection'.  they should just eat the loss, considering how much damn money they make on our transactions...
