N/A valve cover on a 1.6TD
«

Any reason a valve cover from a 1.6 N/A diesel wouldn't fit on a 1.6TD? The valve cover on my TD is in less than ideal shape and I've got a near mint cover from a n/a on the shelf. They look almost identical other than the external hose spigot on n/a the breather hose goes to as opposed to the hockey puck on the TD. Bolt pattern is the same as well

Seems like most of us prefer the TD cover to the NA and we seek them out and pay big bucks at times. So I don't see any reason it would be backward compatible.

That puck is nice for helping to remove oil from the crankcase gasses.
The 1.8 gassers used the same valve cover,.. at least my '87 Jetta GLI has one.

The puck is not just good for removing crankcase oil vapor, it is more importantly a safety valve that closes if the engine starts pulling vacuum on the vent. This is quite important for preventing runaway if there is any sort of intake restriction, e.g. clogged air filter. I would not run a TD engine without a puck.

Im running a catch can vented to atmosphere with a custom air intake in my samurai so nothing is venting back into the engine.
I bolted it on and it fits nicely and will seal up a heck of a lot better than the mangled td one

What the Puck? Does it have a safety valve for stopping a runaway secretly hidden in there? Hmm, nice to know that. Learn something from this forum almost every day.
Thanks for letting us know about it.

I hacked an alh puck onto my 1.6D. The rubber elbow off the valve cover was a bit too small going into the puck and cracked after a few days. I wrapped it with silicone tape and clamped it back on - puck it.

Yes, it is a very low pressure valve that closes if there is a significant enough difference between the vacuum on the intake side vs. block side.

The cast aluminum G60 valve cover is the best :-)

Yeah I switched to the G60 cover with the 1 piece gasket a few years back. Should have been stock back when they made these considering how easily the damn stamped steel warps and leaks
