1.6TD (JX) Serpentine Conversion
« on: July 19, 2020, 07:04:25 am »
Wondering if this modification is a bolt on.

I have a 1.6TD in a T3 Camper (50 degrees stock). It currently has the stock shim system for belt tensioning.
I have an ALH harmonic balancer and an ABF alternator bracket, spring and alternator. I have an iABED water pump pulley.
I am using these for an ALH upgrade this winter coming, but am having problems with the belt system on the 1.6 and would upgrade if it is not a huge job.

The alternator is different so I will need to rewire it, but Im thinking it is doable. Thoughts?

Yes it will bolt right up but Im not sure how well it will fit in a van. The ABF looks to be a better setup than the other mk3 tensioner. I bolted up the other mk3 style serpentine setup with the "auto tensioner" to my 1.6D golf and the bracket broke twice before I went back to a v-belt setup

Just a thought, did you have the overrun clutched pulley on the alternator?
