One for the diesel engine tuners
« on: February 20, 2020, 08:25:54 am »
I have an old and tired series 3 landy with a 2.25 5 main bearing diesel engine. Its needing a rebuild with new rings and pistons probably. I have a spare set of 200tdi pistions lying around. I know land rover used the same bore size through the n/a and early turbo engines and incresaesd the stroke to gain capacity. The question is would fitting 200tdi pistons to the 2.25 give any minor improvement to the performance. Having benifited from a few more years of design. I know there was supposed to be a n/a version of the 200tdi but it never came to be, i suspect if it had it would have used the same pistons as the turbo model to save production costs. The 2.25 use pistons with a v grove on top the tdi uses the hill surounded by moat type. Over the v grove these premote better mixing of the fuel and air. But the question is will they have some of this effect in a non turbo charged engine.
