Looking for a Tach for my cluster
« on: July 21, 2020, 06:57:06 pm »
Hey y'all,
Got a few 1981 diesel rabbits, wondering if anyone has an instrument cluster that's got a tach instead of the clock. OR, if anyone has just the tach part I can swap into my cluster.

You big dreamer you.  EVERYONE WANTS one of those.  Most of us convert a gasser tach out of a Cabriolet by switching some of the electronic parts to make it work for us.  Search or find the sticky about how to do it on this forum.

Instructions get a bit involved as they said to do this and then did that instead-but if you read it all a couple of times you can figure it out.  Or PM Libbydiesel for help.

There you go.  Buy that, pull the tach, convert it to a w-signal, etc...  That's what I did in my '79 in order to have a working tach.

Ha! I thought that might be the answer I got...
I'll do some more research. Might just add a digital tach via arduino, since I've already got the arduino controlling my radiator, and room on the lcd display I've got hooked up for coolant temp.
Might also just follow libbydiesel's recommendation.

I found a cool 2 1/4" motometer or VDO ( can't remember) diesel tach a few years ago. Also an easy option as it runs off the W terminal  IIRC.
