Volvo D24TIC Power issue
« on: February 07, 2020, 05:47:03 pm »
Hey everyone!

I have volvo 940 with a vw 2.4D R6 engine.

Recently it has a bit of a weird lack of power at full throttle in 3rd and 4th gear at 3000+ rpm ( when the boost hits 1.1bar ), but not always, and the engine is making weird noises when it happens, rattle or something, i dont know how to describe it in english, it sounds like it's it's timing goes retarded or has a lack of fuel or something.
I have new fuel filter (driven about ~1000km) and intank fuel filter is clean.
Today one time rpms dropped little a little bit at full throttle and then it was going again after like 2 seconds without any problems, seems like the problem is in 3000rpm area or something.

Any ideas what would be wrong or what to check? :(

Mod's i have done:
Straight pipe 2.5" with simons resonator
Modified boost pin and turned all the way down.
Governor mod, shimmed the spring 4-5mm
Injection timing 1.0mm
Max fuel screw turned almost all the way down.
Boost 1.1bar ( stock 0.8bar )

It still drives (daily), but sometimes it wont accelerate like it were before. Winter is coming, cant hold WOT in corners when it is trying to die. Is it possible that the pre supply pump in injection pump is dieing? Is it possible to measure injection pump internal pressure somehow?

If there isn't any other helper pumps
a vacuum gauge on the front of the pump will tell you how hard the pump is pulling.
Most of my cars have a dash mounted vacuum gauge hooked to the front of the pump.
It tells when the fuel is gelling,
when there is a fuel line restriction,... more common than you think.
 When the tank vent clogs.

Clear fuel lines to and from the pump
will let you know if there is air in the fuel,
which can be caused by many things.

Thanks for advice, a vacuum gauge is a very good idea, I'll try it tomorrow. Fuel lines are visually ok, but maybe some rubber fuel lines are "swollen" inside or something.

 Visually OK.
Does that mean they are clear?

Does that mean they are clear?

I mean that metal fuel lines has no damage.

And there is no vacuum in fuel inlet, so no restriction in fuel lines. :(
Next I'll try to add el. fuel pump and give 2-3bar supply pressure.
