Starting trouble when warm.

My Golf starts first time from cold (albeit a little lumpy as I know a couple of the glow plugs need changing), but having been stood for an hour or so, it is subsequently very reluctant to start.

The glowplug light doesn't come on at all, and you have to crank it for about 10 secs before it finally fires up in a great cloud of unburnt fuel.
Initially I'm thinking that the temp sensor may be to blame, but if anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.

If you are powered by something other than diesel you may need to have the injectors reworked to inject at a higher cylinder pressure so that the oil ignites properly. Ten seconds of cranking would get cylinder pressures and temperatures up. And replace your glows.

You're starter may not be cranking fast enough to ignite the fuel without the glowplugs help. I had this problem until I replaced my starter and grounds.

I'm experiencing the same thing.  car starts right up when cold, but takes a few cranks when warm.  must be the fact that when cold the glow plugs come on.
