For the gurus: My timing belt is riding the inside of the cam pulley and riding properly on the injection pump sprocket. It appears that a tiny bit of the belt is worn on the outside. I have no idea what could be causing it. I have a new timing belt tensioner and new belt. My old belt shows no signs of abnormal wear. Its riding the IP sprocket like it should. But it rides in the middle of the cam sprocket. Any ideas?
Is the stud for the tensioner bent?
Not that I know of, it looked perfect. Everything did. The belt went on, tensioned properly the first time, no hangups or nothing.
You should probably check, maybe you can eyeball the space between the edges of the idler and the block.
this may help, a www on flat belt alignment:
http://www.besser.com/servicetips/2001feb26.htm{The basic and primary rule which must be kept in mind when tracking a conveyor belt is simple, "THE BELT MOVES TOWARD THAT END OF THE ROLLER/IDLER IT CONTACTS FIRST."}
basesd on that, your stud may be bent up and in.
we had this problem on my rabbit. ended up grinding down the bracket until everything lined up correctly and haven't had any issue since. might be a good 'band aid' solution if you can't trace the true cause.
