5 liter oil capacity.......how much circulates?
« on: May 13, 2019, 10:18:37 pm »
If the aaz oil capacity is about 5 liters......how much volume is "in circulation" with the engine running?

Anyone pondered this / figured it out?

 Thanks

Well,  it differs a bit if you are in zero gravity conditions.
Ponder THAT.
The mask and the shot(s) are actually an IQ test. If you are wearing or circulating, you just failed the test. I can't feel sorry for you.

Enough to keep the cam lobes from grinding down or the lifters from doing the same.  The lower crank bearings from sounding like a garbage disposal and the pistons from becoming attached to the sides of the cylinders.

What more do you need to know?

I'm modding the oil pan and pick up tube location. Making the pan deeper at the trans end, and shaving the pan under cyl 1 and 2.
IF I know how much oil is in circulation with engine running, I'll know how much oil is in the pan. Then I'll know how to locate the pick up screen with possible addition of baffles, and not suck air on the steeps and on side hills.
I will not be using the aaz plastic oil baffle.

What you think........2 liters in circ?

Mod the oil pan?  OK if you have to.

I would think 2 liters is a bit much for all that is circulation.  Maybe counting the head catching some and then the drain down.

I would suspect that if you keep the pickup tube the same distance from the bottom of the pan you would not have any problems.  The volume in there would be higher at the one end if the capacity was the same.  So do you think you would have problems with the crank splashing into it and creating flow disruptions?

More oil in the same pan would be similar and don't we get warnings not to overfill past the full mark by more than 1/2 a liter.

Just some thoughts.  Keep us up to date on this.
