Hello everyone,
My name's Joe i'm from Bournemouth, England. Some of you may know me from the caddy forum. Marteen sent me over here as I'm a bit of a diesel convert.
Here's a couple pics of my caddy. Its an '89 Caddy which I have fully rebuilt mechanically and I fitted a 1.9TD AAZ froma mk3 Golf that I was breaking. I fully rebuilt the engine, including fitting new cylinder head and injector pump. I also fitted the larger Garrett turbo from my old 1.6TD engine as well as the boost pin/adjustable LDA from the 1.6TD pump.
I still haven't fitted the front mount intercooler or cranked the boost, but she goes very well all the same. I'm in the process of sorting the bodywork so within a couple of months she should be finished, but its my daily drive so I have to do things when I can. But when she is finished I'm going to build a mk2 with a PD.
Anyway this forum has some great info, look forward to talking to some of you in the near future.
Joe

Hello Joe,
Love the Caddy - it's very low.
The sump is too fricking low! Thats why I had to replace it on saturday!
Hello mate
nice to see another from the UK, theres actually quite a few of us now
that is one sweet caddy

last few weeks there seems to have been a glut of people on the Caddy forum from the UK asking questions about TD conversions - I've stuck my oar in on most occassions and told them to get over here.
cool, TD is the way to go! it just make so much sense, and I reckon suits a caddy down to the ground
this certainly is THE place for diesel info, I've learnt a hell of alot, and hopefully given back a little too
I'd love to find out exactly how many in the UK are running turbo diesels now( obviously not standard new tdis there loads of them  ) maybe organise a meet, there are a few tdi swaps out there which I'd love to have a look at/ get a passenger ride in
so what stage are you at now reg - whats your next thing to do?

Get the FASKING THING to fire would be nice!
Don't think the starter motor is up to it.
I'm gonna have to move the battery back 25/30mm to get the pipes from FMIC to turbo fitted and that's my work done in the engine bay (hopefully)
yeah I had to do the same thing for my boost pipes.
just a few suggestions to throw out there for starting:
test your glow plugs, check they're definatley glowing
check the stop solenoid
are you on flat ground? I've actually had problems starting after being on a hill the wrong way, and fuel running back to the tank
have you had your injectors pop tested?
timing all checked
cold start working properly if your using it?
and a really good battery
good luck

They
were before I fitted them, they draw current and the glow plug circuit works fine now.
check the stop solenoid
Couldn't shift it from the pump body but it clicks and fuel it getting through

on the level.
have you had your injectors pop tested?
No - I've a spare set of good NA injectors and pump though.
timing all checked
Yep, checked, double checked and then checked again
cold start working properly if your using it?
I'm not using it, but it does appear to work correctly from external inspection
and a really good battery
I tried a 100% battery last night, the starter is slow and I need to get a diesel one.
Just had to get in with the "Im in the UK and I got a Diesel Caddy thread!"
Reg, seems like your a bit further on than me! Im still driving around with the 1.6D and it's up at 265 K now! Living on borrowed time I think!
For you caddy boys I have a few Caddy related items on my website at
www.brickwerks.co.uk It's mainly T3's I specialise in but Caddys do darken my doorway every now an again.
just joined from uk too, & i run a vento td[/img]
hi another newbie from uk also into t3's (hi simon)i have a pick up with an upright 19n/a at the moment but this set up gives more scope for turbos and manifolds than standard and a van with a19 aaz
Greetings from deepest darkest Devon, UK.
Got a 91 Golf GTD, 200,000miles, so I bought another one. Superb tools. This forum is the only place on the web for any decent info on these things. Keep up the good work
