quick alt wiring question
« on: June 13, 2006, 12:24:19 pm »
Which wire runs the alt light on the dash for a 91 1.6 N/A no air?  Is it the wire that's connected below the main pwr wire or the line at the top (of the alternator that is)?
My light was going hairy the last couple of weeks and now it's not working and my battery is dead.  i charged it and got it going but the light's not working and the alt isn't recharging the battery.  I remeber something said regarding the wire that runs this dash light... if it's not working the alt doesn't charge.
TIA
Out.
Greg

Usually the one from the bottom is from the voltage regulator. I've learned the following:

1 - Not having it hooked up will throw the batt light.
2 - Not having the main power cable hooked up WON'T throw the batt light (especially if the alt is working correctly).

The alternator was pooched.  My third on this year.  Gotta love rebuilts.  All covered under warranty but still a PITA none the less.  Thanks for the reply post.
