Waste gate issues
« on: March 05, 2006, 05:01:29 pm »
I've been looking at a 1983 TD from a Jetta. Apparently it does not have a KKK turbo on it, and the owner stated that the turbo it does have historically had wastegate issues. Apparently there is a "tin can" that is part of the actuating mechanism and these rust out. I was just wondering if there is some sort of aftermarket waste gate and controller that could be put on this engine that would do away with this issue.

Check it out carefully, the Waste Gate on a Garrett Turbo is a good one and seldom fails.

I have a 1983 Jetta engine with the same issue with the tin can around the waste gate. The engine is out right now and I would like to find out if this is something that can be fixed and how.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
