In Europe a lot of people have been playing with bigger brakes on there cars.

I recently found out a major upgrade on the front callipers and main brake cylinder. Thought you might like it.

For the front you can use the callipers and anchors from an Opel Senator, Monza or Omega 2.5 and 3 liter version. The got a 60mm calliper in stead of the 54mm from the G60/VR6 brakes. The achorplates will fit the hubs from the MK1.

But the original bolts from the MK1 are M12 and the new one has got M14 holes. So you'll have to bush that. Also need an offset bushing to get te calliper centered on the disk.

For a disk you can take a 280mm disk from a VW Corrado or any other VAG car with 4x100 and 280mm. But than you have to take something away from the brake pads.
But this is the only way to fit 15" rims.

You can also take a VR6 (Golf MK3, Corrado, Passat 35i B4) 288mm disk without holes drilled into an dril 4x100 yourself. Or change a hub 5x100 to fit the MK1 Bearing. Than you can use an original VR6 disk.

Next main brake cylinder: The biggest used in the VAG concern without the limitations of ABS and only two exit holes is the cylinder from an Audi 200TQ (Turbo Quattro) de diameter is 25.4mm !!!!

it's all really preference, i've heard of the people with 11 inch corrado brakes on the front and corrado rear discs,, they all say it's totally over kill, i've got 10.1" scirocco front brakes and plan to stick mk3 rear drum brakes on, you can stick rear discs on these cars easily, but no one says it makes a difference, it's only for appearance, i think that a simple mk3 rear drum and scirocco 16v front brakes will make you plenty happy

The mounting bolt patern from the axle stud are almost all the same. You can ad disks and callipers from: Golf2,3 Corrado, Passat 35i B3/B4 and some Seat's or Skoda's.

As an upgrade you can take the aluminium calipers from a Golf mk4 and younger.

I can tell you something. From small drums to disks is realy an upgrade and not only on apperance! (take the 38mm callipers instead of the early 36mm.)

Don't forget to mount a set of brake pressure restrictors of a corrado of scirocco. Or else the rear of your car will overtake the front while braking.

easiest way to upgrade to 256mm discs on a mk1 is to use carriers and calipers off a 1986 - 1987 Audi coupe 2.1 or 2.3 non-quattro (4 stud hubs) these are a straight bolt on - its what all of the UK Polo G40 boys use as a cheap upgrade!
