I just can't help myself, I picked up a local "Pennysaver" (I shouldn't be allowed to read those) and there it was "1985 VW Rabbit diesel parts car, $50". I call the local exchange #, and it turns out it's all of 6 miles from my house, at this point, I know I'm sunk.
I go to look at it and it's really a Golf, of course. It's a four door, solid body, 200k miles, only rust I see is the battery box, interior is perfect! Guy says it's been parked in his yard since the winter of '96 when it began to get hard to start, -- low compression, he thinks.
My Scirocco driving 17 year old says we should just part it out, but when my soon-to-be-driving 15 year old sees it, he claims it for his first "project car".
I guess I'll go hook up the trailer now --
Here we go again --
I'll let the boys explain it to their Mom --
You da man!!!
I feel for ya brother! This morning I am driving down to San Jose (~90 minutes) to pick up an '84 GTI that a fellow GAVE me...
