Starting fresh, AHU tdi what to build
« on: May 02, 2006, 09:41:57 am »
So I just picked up a 98 Jetta TDI without a motor, I need to build it up for myself, what to do?
Head studs, what turbo, intake manifold?, intercooler pipes/front mount cooler?, injectors 216, what clutch anything else??? I will delete egr of course.
I don't have a huge bugdet but the car was cheap so I have some money to play with-I am not looking for a monster, just a reliable car with good power. I have two mk4 tdis with bigger injectors both automatic though and want this car faster then them. I am thinking 175hp or so and 300torque? Possible?

Strickly electronic, I don't have the knowledge or time to go mechanical...I already have 216 nozzles, I am on a budget here! I think I found a motor now (yet to pay for it) but need knowledge on the pump, worth upgrading the head from an auto? Turbo suggestions-GT22 hybrid? I am new to upgrades, familar with stock TDIs...

i dont know alot about the electronic setups toomuch, but you can still use the total sealring setup,,iwould think 175hp-300 ft pounds would be achievable,,go to kerma's site, they have some dyno charts
Throttle cables ftw

Racewares have gone up in price... when I priced mine through them they were 189.95 as I let my other set go with the IDI TD I sold to fund the TDI ....which I paid 900.00 for. Yours is def a steal.  Luckily on the head studs I contacted EIP which carries both ARP and Raceware , at first...interested in trying the ARP's but when they had trouble getting them they gave me the Racewares at the old price of 179.95 which wasn't too bad. $10.00 is $10.00 in this kind of a project...

i pulled the head tonight and found nothing wrong in the topend besides the lifters were gone, cylinders are great with no ridge and im gonna plasigauge the bottom end tomorrow anyone know the specs off the top of there heads?
so i should go with head and main studs? i wanna go all out with this one now that i have two passats.
and the ip, am i gonna be able to put my top on it for throttle? or should i just swap the head and cam?
the pump is only a 10mm, i was hoping for the 11
i guess i should have started my own thread heheh sorry!

yea man ahu in a rabbit, do it!!get the stud kits for the head, and the main caps,im sayin, cause they are BOTH stretch bolts(so thats like 300bux in  some lousy bolts, i know it sorta sux but ya wanna play, gotta step up and accept it)
im workin on that  hy holset turbo setup,i hope it works, and is faster yet,i want a   car that i can drive to the strip, lower the tires some, and run in the 13s,maybe even mid 13s possibly

If you have everything I would hold onto the electronics. The system is very upgradeable and can give you a very drastic swing from mild and conservative to extreme and smokey for the best of both worlds which is very difficult to get with a mechanical pump. Multiple maps are also possible if you wanted to have a special map for the strip.

if you have a ahu engine, and you have a complete 1.6 td,its very easy to make it(ahu) an "m" engine..just swap the fuelsystem over, and use the tdi injectors ...i think it would be easier to do this  than fitting up all the electronics to convert to "m"
