AAZ Timing Setting 1.0mm to much?
« on: October 26, 2020, 04:58:32 pm »
I have 94 TD jetta AAZ.
I set timing at .82mm and seems to rev up quicker but not have as much power maybe. Or have to rev it higher to get it to go.
When I set timing at 1.0 mm, it seems like it has a push against the engine or more pressure on the engine sort of, hard to explain. It feels different. It maybe picks up a bit quicker at lower rpms. And has more power maybe.
Im just trying to make it run best with best economy and reliability and if gain hp then great.

Maybe I will try it at this 1.0mm setting for a while and then set it to .92-.95? What do you think?
Have you guys tried 1.0mm and does that increase the mpg and power? and reliability?

Is it confirmed for sure that the higher number is more advance timing?
.82 is more retarded and .92 mm is more advance timing?

Yes, 1.00 is too much on an AAZ.  Higher is more advanced.  Too advanced is bad.  Too retarded is bad.

OK, So .92mm?
Sounded like others were running 1.0mm on sites. But wanted some feed back...

 I love my pulse detector.
Just hook it up to the timing light and set it to 12BTDC.

Before that I always adjusted it by ear.
Because the injectors and wear on the pump have a big effect on where the timing is.
Where the pump is set is just part of it.

Anyone local have a pulse detector?
