here is the story,
i have 96 Jetta 1.9TD which i purchased knowing i had some repared that had to be done. the engine was replaced and body painted when i purchased it. seller had the bills for the engine and turbo.
i just finished my wvo conversion and shortly after my IP starts to leaks but runs fine. i have replaced the timing belt as soon as i purchased the car but did not change the crank pully nor does it wable at all at this point . the mileage on the car is 250K.
i have choice the swap an ip that i found for 150 of which i do not know the durability of but the scrap yard does offer a 3 month warranty. my neighbour will help me install it for free and my other neighbour who works at vw will tune it for me if needed. i also found the repairs shops that will repair the ip between 350 - 450 can.
because i fear the crack pully being an issue sooner or later and do not know the cost of the repair worries me.
wife and i have a few choices.
my choice is to sell the car with the high quality and very safe veggie conversian and be patient and buy a cleaner mk3 with a TDi engine and convert it when the time is right.
or
pay the extra cash and get a rebuilt IP that will last longer and running on veggie over time will help recuperate some of the costs.
note: as a whole the car runs great but there is rust on top of the windshield but no leaking water yet.
should i sell the car or keep it.
if you decide to answer can you please explain the reasoning behind your decision .

You can change the seals in the pump with simple tools.
the 90 days would give you plenty of time to find a KNOWN RUNNING spare pump, or have yours rebuilt.
My local PnP yards charge under $50 for pumps, but thay have sometimes sat so longs they died.
I have had more trouble from regular maintainence issues than veg related difficulty, and fuel is adding up pretty fast lately.

in my neck of the woods there were to places that had a spare ip. one wanted 450 which is crazy because i can get it rebuilt for that price.
is there a link on the web that explains how to change the o ring/seals on the shaft using simple tools.

I'd send the pump to Giles, and have it done up.He's not to far away.
Keep the car,and drive it and recoup your money. You can drive it into the ground, pull all your parts, and sell them off to make back your money twice over.
