LR 200 tdi pump
« on: April 01, 2019, 04:46:02 pm »
Hello,

I have a AFN tdi with stock injectors on witch i have mounted a LR 200 tdi pump.
The engine started fine and ran good at idle.
I have driven the van (vw transporter t3/t25 ) on and of the lift and then it began to sputter and died.tryed to start it again but it only made wihte smoke.
I have pulled it of the engine and taken it appart.
Now i found out some teeth of the flyweight/governor gear have stript off so i replaced it and it ran great again but yesterday it did the same.
What can be the reason the gear gets its teeth knokt off?
Pump hase been flushed out and cleaned ultrasonic to make shure there where now parts of the old gear in the pump.
Would be nice if some one could help me out, don't feel like changing uot parts after every time it runs :)
Greetz Marcel from the netherlands.

That's really weird.  I can't think of anything that would strip the teeth off other than the governor assembly binding on the shaft or some foreign object getting into the teeth.

Thanks for your replay!
Thats what i thought to,and wy i made this post.
Had some one mention that the stock injectors are to small for the pump and that would be the reeson this happens but i cant see how that would make the teeth strip of those gears. In that case the plunjer would seize up.

If the injectors are too small it can seize the high pressure plunger and snap it, but it won't strip the teeth off the governor gear.

That is what i thougt.
But are the injectors to small for this pump, they are the standard AFN injectors.
I was trying to find out wich size are in the landrover but cant find any information about injector size.

The stock AFN injectors would be fine unless you cranked the max fuel way up.  I still doubt you'd have a problem but you might.

The pump is on its standard settings,so nothing been done to the max. fuel screw.
i think that the fueling is not the problem but that something foreign in the pump has done this.
The pum is disasembled and wil be cleaned thuroughly befor i put it back together and back on the engine, hopefely it wil not happen again .
Thanks for your input!!
