Leaky 1.6TD IP and less power but only after it warms up -
« on: January 14, 2019, 10:29:02 pm »
I have noticed my diesel caddy with MF motor starts to loose power and leak fuel off the rear bracket at the bottom and back of injection pump after it runs for a bit or warms up. I cannot see where it is leaking from but I am guessing its the fuel distributor head O ring - my question is if just a leaky distributor head O ring would cause reduced power as it warms up or would it more likely be due to worn pump tolerances that once warmed up become greater thus allowing for less power than when first running?

I would go with worn pump.  Pulling it might be a side benefit to finding another solution to another problem you have going on there.  Welcome to the club of VW mechanics.  Oh the stories we could tell of our blunders.

ORCoaster - I agree that my symptoms more typify worn pump in that as I now recall it started to loose power before it started leaking but like you say I tried a different pump and now problem is solved! Thanks for your explanation/response!!
